Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Companies 1, 2 and 3 and Neshanic Fire Company responded to the call of a basement fire in a Merritt Drive townhouse on Tuesday Janyary 31 at 8:42 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found a heavy smoke condition and small fire in the townhouse basement. The fire was contained to the basement. The townhouse was deemed uninhabitable, however the neighboring residents were allowed to return to their homes after about one hour. Also responding were Hillsborough Township Fire Safety, Hillsborough Township Construction Department, Hillsborough Township Rescue Squad and the Somerville Rescue Squad.
